The orphanages in Xi’an are relatively well funded and the facilities are well maintained. But as there are large numbers of orphans (over 400) living in the facility, it’s often hard for few staffs to take good care of them. You’ll assist the staffs and provide the children with love and care as well as teach them to speak English. The children range from 3 to 16, but those who turn 16 are then asked to look after younger children. So help is desperately needed in the orphanage.
How Does This Project Make a Difference?
Young children need to feel loved. For that they have to be well cared and well looked after, but the staffs at the orphanages are too overstretched to do that. Hence, volunteers will ensure the children are healthy, eat well and wear clean clothes. You’ll also teach them English, nursery rhymes, and play with them. All this will give the children confidence and they will start to believe in themselves.
Highlights of the Program
Volunteers will provide a general care giving role. Playing with the children is one of the major responsibilities. Hence, volunteers will have to enjoy the company of the children. You’ll also teach and sing songs, play games and participate in simple lessons. Your daily chores will include chaining nappies, giving them bath and sometimes taking the children into the community for different activities.
Location
Xi’an contains many attractions and the city is often full of tourist. There are many places to dine. The center of the city contains drum and bell tower, as well as city wall. The Grand Mosque is also another attraction, while just outside the city limits is located the magnificent Army of Terracotta Warrior museum. If you want to go away for a whole day, you can go to panda research center in Qingling Mountains or visit the sheer beauty of Huashan National Park.
