Child Development Centers in Thai cities and in factory areas provide shelter for the children of parents who go to work. Various groups like the local government, communities and temples are running these centers to provide care and love to the poor and disadvantaged children. Their parents mostly work in underpaid jobs, and are thus unable to send the children to private nurseries. The parents drop their children before they go to work and pick them up after finishing work. These children need adequate care and programs that will educate and develop them. Therefore, the care and love volunteers will provide will be of great importance.
What difference does this project make?
Through your support – by caring, educating, and playing with them – you’ll ensure these children from desperately poor families learn and grow while they are at the center. The center isn’t well funded and lack trained manpower to care for the children. Hence, volunteers help will go a long way towards really developing the children. Plus, a small donation the center will receive for hosting the volunteer will also make them financially little stronger.
Highlights of the program
Volunteers will teach children, play games and other kindergarten toys with the children, and care of them. During your free time, you can explore the culture of the city and also make trips south to see pristine beaches or north for cool air and hill sides.
Project location
Our volunteer projects are located in Ayutthaya, an ancient capital and modern city in the central plains of Thailand, about 85 km north of Bangkok. Ayutthaya was founded in 1350 and by 1700 Ayutthaya had become the largest city in the world with a total of 1 million inhabitants. The Burmese invaded Ayutthaya in 1767 and almost completely burnt the city down to the ground. Today, only a few remains might give a glimpse of the impressive city they must have seen. Its remains are characterized by the prang (reliquary towers) and big monasteries. Most of the remains are temples and palaces, as those were the only buildings made of stone at that time. You can reach Ayutthaya from Bangkok by bus, car or train. |
