For the young monks, English learning is not in their official curriculum as they learn only in their native language. But with interaction increasing between monks and people from all around the world, knowledge of English will be extremely handy if they are to articulate finer points of what they’ve learnt as Buddhist monks. Hence, volunteers will help these monks by teaching them in an interactive way, trying to develop their conversational English. You’ll find the monks extremely eager to learn and very friendly.
What difference does this project make?
Through the project, monks will learn English otherwise they wouldn’t have. With this, their education will become more well-rounded and up to date. Volunteers will also learn about prevailing practices inside the monastery.
Highlights of the program
Working with young monks and learning Buddhist culture is a unique experience. The monks are eager to learn English. In your free time, you can explore the local region and visit many national parks, beaches and ancient cities. During the program, volunteers will stay either in a hostel or with a host family. While living with a host family, volunteers will be able to learn about local culture and make friends with local people. You’ll also be served local meals 3 times a day.
Project location
