Our orphanage project is located in Galle, where children that are deprived and orphaned are being raised by orphanages. The orphanages are also seeking help, especially from international volunteers to help raise the children. There is a lot a volunteer can do to assist. Even through your presence you can inspire the children as they have been abandoned and isolated, and knowing that people come from far away to spend time with them makes the children feel very special. You will also become involved in many activities to care, love and educate the children.
What difference does this project make?
There is very little support for the orphaned children in Sri Lanka and for them the only option is to find orphanages that are willing to take them in. The orphanage not only provides them shelter but also provides them food, clothes to wear and sends them to school to educate. The children are however often in need of private tuition as the schools they attend lack trained teachers. Our volunteers will teach the children, mainly English or other subjects if they want. You’ll also make sure the children are well fed, clean and entertained. Through the love and care you’ll provide, the children will grow confident and start to think of a brighter future and work towards it.
Highlights of the program
Working at the orphanages will be involved in teaching children English and other subjects, making sure the children are well fed, sleep well and are hygienic and entertained. You can also help the orphanage by working in the kitchen, cleaning the building or do bit of administrative work.
Project location
This project is located in Galle, a small, quaint town on the southern tip of the island. It’s a peaceful place but is a typical town in Sri Lanka. There are many things to see and do in Galle, including enjoying the beach and visiting fishing villages and other villages and historical sites.
