Medical/Healthcare projects in South Africa require volunteers to work in hospitals or clinics. It can be a challenging job. Volunteers will assist doctors and health workers in general wards or maternity wards. In the clinics volunteers may assist the care takers on daily rounds to visit patients, provide basic health care, distribute medication, and counsel to provide assistance for special activities. Other volunteer activities may include assisting children’s care and support group, providing day care and adult support, and hosting reading and craft activities like painting and knitting.
What difference does this project make?
The health services in South Africa need to reach out to local masses. Local people, who are poor and cannot afford medical attention in big hospitals, are the ones we would be helping through this project. We also hope to help locals with various health related issues through treatment, counseling or conducting awareness programs. - Family Planning
(NOTE: Activities will vary day-to-day, depending up on the schedule of the project and a volunteer’s skills/experience. The local project staff members may request assistance in various activities deemed necessary or beneficial to the clinic or those in need.). Generally, the head of the clinic/hospital presents volunteers with a work plan upon arrival. The daily work plan depends up on the individuals' skills, interests and knowledge.
