There are many day care centers in South Africa established to help working mothers or underprivileged families. These day care centers are understaffed. New Hope Volunteers offers help by placing volunteers in these centers. Volunteers can undertake different activities like feeding the children, playing with them, caring for them and the likes. English speaking volunteers might as well teach these young children English as a part of their volunteering work.
What difference does this project make?
This project offers day care options for underprivileged families who lack resources to take care of their babies properly and working mothers who cannot stay with the child throughout the day. We make sure the babies grow healthy and aren’t deprived of basics like love, care, affection, and proper diet.
Highlights of the program
Volunteers may assist in various activities that include:
- Supporting recreational and artistic activities with an objective of educational learning
- Helping children work in the garden
- Organizing and developing sports activities
- Supporting in the kitchen/helping to serve lunch in the dining room
- Helping children with homework and teaching basic conversational English
- Assisting with location-specific duties – routine maintenance, construction, etc
Note: Volunteers interested in multi tasking can engage in two or more projects at the same time.
Project location
This project is located in Cape Town, the legislative capital of South Africa. This city is famous among travelers for its harbors and its natural setting in the Cape floral kingdom that includes well-known landmarks such as Table Mountain and Cape Point. As a volunteer, you’ll have a lot to learn from this city which falls among the most multicultural cities in the world. |
