Teaching English is both challenging and very rewarding. Nepal is a desperately poor country. Schools in Nepal often lack trained and experienced teachers, especially English teachers, and any help volunteers can give will be incredibly appreciated by the locals. English is also a very important subject for the young students of Nepal. Often their chance of going to good colleges and securing a good job in future depends upon their ability to write and speak well in English. Because of this, parents and teachers put lot of pressure on young students to learn English. Hence, the students are very eager to learn from an international volunteer and you really can make a difference. Volunteers in Nepal will teach children government as well as community schools and will no doubt uplift the quality of the education.
What Difference Does This Project Make?
It’s very important to speak and write well in English in Nepal. Yet, children speak Nepali most of the time. Even in English classes, they mostly communicate in Nepali with local teachers. As a result, English is a difficult subject for them. Our volunteers will help change this. You’ll hold debates and discussions as well as teach from the official curriculum. This will make the children confident. By hosting the volunteers, the schools will also receive a small donation, which they can make good use of by building infrastructure or doing other useful things.
Program Highlights
Through the program, volunteers will immerse in local Nepali culture, learn local language so that you can communicate more effectively with the local, become involved in orientation program about Nepal, and teach and help the children of either Kathmandu or a small rural town of Chitwan. During the cultural immersion program, you’ll also tour historical and tourist sites of Nepal, take part in white water rafting and ride on the backs of an elephants on the jungles of Chitwan to search for tigers and rhinos.
Project Location
Nepal is a country of matchless beauty. On the northern frontiers bordering Tibet, towering Himalayan draws visitors in thousands every year. As you travel south from there, you’ll pass countless snow fed rivers, deep ravines and gorges, green valleys and panorama of hills after hills. Nepal eventually ends on the flat plans that border India. In these lands, countless ethnic groups with their multitude of languages and unique cultures thrive. The project is located in Kathmandu, the capital and the largest city in Kathmandu, and also in Chitwan, a small rural town on the south of Nepal. |
