As English has emerged as a language of communication internationally, in order to compete globally and even locally for lucrative jobs, Guatemalan youth must have very good knowledge of English. For schools that are scattered around rural Guatemala, there is no proper infrastructure to deliver quality education. Neither do they have trained teachers to teach English. New Hope Volunteers aims to let every children learn English and become a competent citizen of the country. Under this project, we place volunteer in various schools throughout Guatemala to assist local teachers teach English effectively.
What difference does this project make?
With programs like this, we hope to impart quality education to children in Guatemala. We aspire to bring the downtrodden and destitute masses in the frontline of development. As the children learn English, they can fight for international jobs and be competent enough to go to any corner of the world to offer their services. Besides, fluency in English can benefit the fledging tourism industry of Guatemala.
Highlights of the program
Young students dramatically benefit from the contributions of proficient English-speaking volunteers willing to dedicate their time and efforts. Volunteers can expect to assist in developing conversational and grammatical English skills. Volunteer may also lend their personal English expertise by conducting language activities for younger learners. In the meantime, you also get to experience the historical city of Guatemala and Quetzaltenango, their unique culture/tradition and the ruins of the great Mayan empire.
Project location
Our project in Guatemala is located in Antigua. The city likes in the central highlands and is famous for Baroque architecture and number of spectacular ruins of colonial churches. Antigua is close to Guatemala City and is much calmer and safer. It is possible to take buses from Antigua to many parts of Guatemala. Antigua is located in the tropics and therefore has nice weather all year long. Its high elevation keeps the city from getting too hot in the summer, the average daytime temperature all year 'round being in the 70's, unlike some other parts of the country which are closer to sea level and which can become very hot and humid. |
