The orphanages in Guatemala provide housing, education, clothing and food for orphaned children. Many children from extremely deprived families are helped by other institutions setup by local communities and churches that provide them a place for enjoying extra–curricular activities and assistances in studies. New Hope works with institutions like this in Guatemala to help these children prosper. We need volunteers to work in these institutions because they are not well funded and are also short-staffed. Volunteers will also provide impetus and motivation and the children really look forward to their presence.
What difference does this project make?
By enrolling in the project, volunteers will work in an orphanage or community supported institution to help the children. These institutions need all the help they can get. Our volunteers will teach the children English and other subjects, look after they by ensuring there are clean, healthy and well feed. Volunteers can also organize games and other recreational activities. This will ensure the children feel loved and cared; this in turn will ensure they will start believing in themselves and their better future.
Highlights of the program
Volunteers will work under the guidance of the local staffs. They will help you settle in by telling you about the institution, rules and regulations and the schedule that you will need to keep. You will help the children with education, look after their health. You will play with the children, counsel them and spend lots of time with them. This is also a project where the services of our volunteers are in great demand, and where our volunteers will also experience great satisfaction helping the unfortunate children.
During free time, there are numerous activities volunteers can pursue, including visiting pristine beaches or going on a hiking to see spectacular views.
Project location
Our project in Guatemala is located in Antigua. The city likes in the central highlands and is famous for Baroque architecture and number of spectacular ruins of colonial churches. Antigua is close to Guatemala City and is much calmer and safer. It is possible to take buses from Antigua to many parts of Guatemala. Antigua is located in the tropics and therefore has nice weather all year long. Its high elevation keeps the city from getting too hot in the summer, the average daytime temperature all year 'round being in the 70's, unlike some other parts of the country which are closer to sea level and which can become very hot and humid. |
