The orphaned children, despite the strong and democratic government compared to other African states, still do not get any privileges and has to find an orphanage willing to take them in. Most of the orphanages are however full and struggle to house, feed, clothe and educate the children. But these orphanages are the last hope of the orphaned children and by volunteering in the orphanage, you’ll make sure the children are well taken good care. You’ll teach them, care of them, provide them with love and make them confident and capable of seeing that they have a bright future.
What difference does this project make?
There is a well document case of the health of the children improving as a result of the care they received from volunteers. Many children also taught by volunteers and this make them confident and capable of believing in themselves. The orphanages also through the project are able to stay afloat and educate, house, feed and clothe the children. The small sum the orphanage receives for hosting the volunteers will go a long way towards making them financially viable.
Highlights of the program
Learn about the country by taking language classes and orientation and live with a host family to learn about the local culture and traditions. Support the orphans with educational, cultural and program related to sports. In your free time, you can museums and national parks.
Project location
The project is based in Accra, Ghana. Accra is the capital and the largest city in Ghana. Accra experiences tropical savanna climate with wet and dry seasons. You can find lots of banks, restaurants, and cafes in the city, and during your free time explore National Museum, National Theatre, Independence Square, Jamestown and Makola Market.
