Ecuador has been greatly affected by HIV/AIDS epidemic. Because of the disease, many families have been plunged into poverty as they lose their breadwinner. The government and many grassroots communities are actively supporting programs that are creating create awareness and trying to halt the march of the disease. Our volunteers will be part of these teams and contribute meaningfully.
What difference does this project make?
Volunteers will work with the locals and be part of the team that is using variety of methods to curb the rate of HIV/AIDS infection. The programs use a holistic approach that advocates change in lifestyle, seeks active support of community leaders and counsels on person to person basis. Our volunteers will provide momentum to the programs and assist the locals.
Highlights of the program
You’ll learn about the nature of HIV/AIDS, how it is spread, and share this information with the local community. You’ll also learn about the approaches the project is using and participate actively. You’ll also learn about Ecuadorian culture, pick up Spanish language, and in your free time explore Ecuadorian rainforest and islands.
Project location
Ecuador provides unique opportunities that you are not likely to be found anywhere else. Projects are located in Quito, Puerto Lopez, Santa Elena, the Amazon rainforests and the Galapagos Islands. Quito is the capital and the largest city in Ecuador and contains numerous banks, restaurants and cafes, while Puerto Lopez is a small fishing village popular for eco-tourists and whale watchers. Galapagos Islands are an archipelago of islands distributed around the equator in the Pacific Ocean, 972 km west of continental Ecuador. |
