Most of the poor and deprived in Ecuador lack proper healthcare and facilities are prohibitively expensive and hard to find. People have to travel a long distance to receive care. No wonder people in remote areas still succumb to curable diseases. But grassroots organizations are trying to change that by making healthcare accessible and affordable. Our volunteers will be part of this endeavor.
What difference does this project make?
The project will make treatment possible to poor and deprived. Our volunteers will help local doctors and nurses, who can sometimes be overwhelmed by the number of patients they receive. Healthcare is available in Quito, Puerto Lopez and Santa Elena.
Highlights of the program
You will support health clinic or hospital projects through spreading awareness of sanitation, common diseases, and the benefits of visiting healthcare professionals in the case of illness. You'll also perform checkups and assist the doctors or nurses. In your free time, you can travel around to witness the incredible diversity of the landscape and unique Ecuadorian culture.
Project location
Ecuador provides unique opportunities that you are not likely to be found anywhere else. Projects are located in Quito, Puerto Lopez, Santa Elena, the Amazon rainforests and the Galapagos Islands. Quito is the capital and the largest city in Ecuador and contains numerous banks, restaurants and cafes, while Puerto Lopez is a small fishing village popular for eco-tourists and whale watchers. Galapagos Islands are an archipelago of islands distributed around the equator in the Pacific Ocean, 972 km west of continental Ecuador. |
