Teaching English Project in Costa Rica

Costa Rica’s economy is progressing well, the healthcare services are pretty good and the people generally literate. But many people have been unable to get on this development bandwagon and are suffering from poverty and neglect. It is families like these that struggle to send their children to decent schools that employ trained manpower. As a result, the children aren’t able to develop the talent necessary to secure seats in good colleges. Our volunteers will work in resource poor schools and teach English and other subjects. English has become very important for Costa Rican children to learn because of trade, tourism and migration. The ability to read and write well in English can make the difference between securing a good job or not. Hence, the work our volunteers will do to teach English will ensure many will have a brighter future ahead of them.

What difference does this project make?

Our Volunteers will teach in local schools. You will teach English and if you want, other subjects also. You’ll be encouraged to hold debates and discussions as this will increase children’s ability to comprehend English better. This will also ensure the children are confident in their ability to read and write in English. This in turn can help them get into good universities or get a good job when they graduate from school.

Highlights of the program

You’ll teach English and other subjects. Many volunteers have also organized games and other extra-curricular activities. During free time, there are numerous activities volunteers can pursue, including visiting pristine beaches or going on a hiking to see spectacular views.

Project location

The project are located in the capital and the largest city San Jose. The city lies at a mean elevation of 1,161 m above sea level, and enjoys a stable climate throughout the year. There are large numbers of restaurants, bars, cafes, museums and national parks in San Jose.
