Volunteer in Public Health Project in Costa Rica and experience working in a healthcare center with a developing country with local medical professionals. The project is located in San Jose. You will work to treat underprivileged and deprived people.
What difference does this project make?
The health project helps deprived families. There are many doctors and nurses committed to helping the poor but they need all the help they can get to treat their patients. Our volunteers will assist local doctors and nurses. Though you will not perform any surgery, you will treat patients, but this also depends on your ability to communicate with the patients. It would be extremely helpful if you have some knowledge of Spanish.
Highlights of the program
Responsibilities vary according to your level of your medical skills and experience. The amount of activity at project sites depends a great deal on the field situation, and we cannot guarantee how busy your placement will be, nor exactly what activities you’ll be involved in on a day-to-day basis. Volunteers should understand they will not always be providing direct patient care, as insurance regulations and laws vary in each country.
The level of involvement at medical projects is most determined by:
- Level of training and demonstrated expertise
- Spanish level—people at your project will not speak English
- Personality—initiative and ability to connect with people at the project
- Duration of program
Project Location
The project is located in the capital and the largest city San Jose. The city lies at a mean elevation of 1,161 m above sea level, and enjoys a stable climate throughout the year. There are large numbers of restaurants, bars, cafes, museums and national parks in San Jose.
