Help the deprived and underprivileged communities of Costa Rica by volunteering in the construction project. The project takes place at extremely impoverished housing areas or schools. Our volunteers will work with local foreman and build or renovate homes. The work can be physically demanding by volunteers will work at their own pace. Through your work, families can sleep in better houses and their children can study in better rooms.
What difference does this project make?
The project seeks to provide better homes for deprived and underprivileged families or resource poor schools. Volunteers will build or renovate homes. The families have no funds to improve their dwelling but will be extremely glad to see our volunteers improve their homes. Many will also join in. Sometimes, the project also renovates classrooms in resource poor schools.
Highlights of the program
Construction volunteers are strongly encouraged to bring work gloves, work boots, safety glasses and clothes that you do not mind getting dirty. It also rains a lot in Costa Rica and as you will be working outdoors a lot you should be prepared for this. The work is divided into two sections. One is a construction work, while the other is renovation. In construction, you will do paining, plastering and repairs, while in construction works like carpentry, masonry, laying tile and plumbing will be performed. You will work from Monday to Friday and work about 3-4 hours.
Project location
The project is located in the capital and the largest city San Jose. The city lies at a mean elevation of 1,161 m above sea level, and enjoys a stable climate throughout the year. There are large numbers of restaurants, bars, cafes, museums and national parks in San Jose.
In the project, volunteers will work from Monday to Friday from 8 am until noon. After 2 hours of breaking for lunch, you'll start from 2 pm and work until 4 pm. If you feel tired, you can rest more and gradually build up your stamina, or if you want to work more, you’re more than welcome to continue after 4 pm. You’ll also encounter warm Costa Rica hospitality and learn about local culture |
